The Kapaliswarar Temple will soon be witnessing its annual festival, which will begin on March 22, with the traditional hoisting of the temple standard. For ten days, the deities will be brought in procession twice a day, on various mounts. Among these, certain days are special – and one of these is the Adhikara Nandi procession when Kapali will go around Mylapore on a gigantic silver kneeling Nandi. This event happens this month on Saturday, March 24th at 6.00 am.
What better occasion than this to enjoy a heritage tour of the temple and its environs with historian Sriram V? Come learn about the festival, its unique traditions and customs and experience the colour and gaiety that are so integral to it. The walk, on foot, will last two hours and end with breakfast. Charges per head – Rs 700.
