You are spot on!It is indeed a case of "kogul".
Possibly the girl's name is Rathiks & Manogar is her father's name!
The "सन्धि" of the 2 names has been the cause of confusion!
Or like in the west are we too heading into same sex marriages?(hope not!)

Loved reading this. You have painted a vivid portrait with your words about the artist, his subject and her family.

Even in the small photograph of Allamai and the painting of her, one can see how Ravi Varma has done a portrait much different from the ones we have seen. It has such warmth.

So, the painter from Kerala has painted a Mumbai young lady and she settled down in Tamizh nADu and her portrait also ended up in Chennai's museum!

Mary Clubwallah exuded energy and was an attractive woman. You have already listed her contributions to society. A remarkable lady she surely was.

She was an impressive figure, presiding over as many events as P.V.Rajamannar in her days.

A very different personality was Rajamannar, but he was as sought after by organizers of events as Allamai's daughter. Being a connoisseur of Carnatic music, he was also much in demand.

There! Heritage and Carnatic music going hand in hand!

Back to the painting...yes, hope it is going to be displayed prominently in the refurbished museum. Good of TN government to allot a lot of money for this which again I hope is going to be well spent.

Dear Sir, Thank you for your query. It is very much appreciated. I believe the address was definitely Royapuram, spelt "Royapooram" in the documents I have.
The only other bit of information was that "C. Masilamoney" was married to lady (a Miss Reddy or Reddyar) that may have come from "Pondicherrie". They had at least four children, my grandfather Francis was the eldest (born 1880); Joseph (born 1882 who went overseas in 1902) Anthony (born 1884?) who was married to a nurse, both who worked for the Indian Copper Corporation in Ghatsila near Calcutta during the 1930's and a daughter, name unknown (born 1888).
Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated. KLA Naidoo, Australia
